Start with the Material
Compare the service for wood, vinyl, laminate, linoleum or tile. Include the exact product if selected, the rooms involved and approximate area. Different products have their own installation, expansion, moisture and care requirements; a familiar appearance does not make two products interchangeable.
Review the Existing Floor
Describe what is installed now and whether it will remain or be removed. Show damage, movement, uneven areas, stains or known moisture problems. A new finish layer should not hide an unresolved substrate or water issue. Photos help organize the request but cannot confirm the condition beneath a finished floor.
Plan Edges Transitions and Clearances
Flooring meets doors, baseboards, cabinets, stairs and adjoining materials. Changes in thickness or height can affect those connections. Include any threshold, trim or door adjustments you want considered, along with the direction or pattern you prefer. Confirm how the new work will meet older surfaces before materials are ordered.
Repair or Larger Replacement
A damaged area may be suitable for a focused repair when the surrounding material and supporting surface are serviceable. Availability, age, wear and previous finishes can limit matching. For tile, also explain the condition of grout, joints and the surface beneath it. Discuss the desired visual result rather than assuming an invisible repair.
Access and Room Preparation
Provide a room list, furniture and appliance constraints, product delivery status and any planned removal. Explain whether the space must remain in use during the project. Flooring should be sequenced with painting, cabinetry or other renovation work so the preparation and protection are understood before scheduling.
