Mesh, frame and operating components
Screen-door work may involve damaged mesh, a failing latch, worn rollers or installation of a selected replacement door. Identify whether the door hinges, slides or retracts, since each has different parts. A glazed storm door or a security-rated assembly may need a different product-specific scope from an ordinary insect screen door.
Check the opening before ordering
Measure the opening and inspect the surfaces supporting the door or track. A screen frame that is bent or out of square may rub even when its nominal dimensions seem correct. The main door’s handle and swing also need clearance; replacing the screen with a thicker model can create a new interference.
Align hinges, rollers and the latch
For a hinged screen, review hinge attachment and whether the frame meets the latch without lifting or twisting. For a sliding screen, inspect the roller arrangement and track condition. A latch adjustment cannot compensate for a bent frame or a track that no longer supports the door evenly.
Check the lower edge and threshold
The bottom of the screen must clear the walking surface while fitting its intended track or sweep detail. Debris and damaged track edges can interrupt sliding operation. Water or decay at the surrounding threshold belongs to the main opening’s repair scope and should be assessed before the screen hardware is refitted.
Confirm closer and full travel
A closer, hold-open device or retracting mechanism must be compatible with the selected system. Check that the door travels without rubbing, closes as intended and latches without force. Mesh tension and frame condition also matter: a twisted frame should not be pulled into shape by overtightening the operating hardware.
Keep the weather barrier separate
An insect screen permits airflow and is not a substitute for the main exterior door’s weather seals. If water or drafts enter around the main patio unit, patio and sliding door repair addresses that assembly. Screen installation should preserve the main opening’s designed drainage and operation.
Re-screen the frame or replace the door?
Torn mesh may be replaced when the frame and retention channel remain usable. Broken corners, severe distortion or unavailable rollers can make a replacement door more practical. For a small removable window screen, window screen repair provides the matching service rather than a door installation.
Repair mounting trim before fitting
Loose or softened jamb trim may not provide a reliable mounting surface for hinges or a closer. Establish that condition before attaching new parts. Agree on patching, paint touch-up and any profile change around the opening; the screen frame should not be used to conceal a deteriorated main door frame.
Send the door type and damage photos
Provide wide views of the opening, the mesh and each damaged component, plus any model label. Include approximate opening dimensions and whether the door slides, hinges or retracts. Mention repeated derailment, dragging, poor latching or broken closer parts, and identify any replacement product already selected.
Request screen door installation or repair
Contact WA-GoodHome at (223) 226-1828 or send your screen door details. We serve Bellevue, the Eastside and Greater Seattle. Include whether you want to keep the existing frame or install a new door, so compatibility and opening condition can guide the scope.
